Aesthetics Studios AKA A for Aesthetics presents – Futuropolis 2044 – Resort Africana
Resort Africana celebrates Nigeria’s vibrant cultural heritage by challenging participants to design a mini-resort that serves as a comprehensive representation of a chosen Nigerian geopolitical zone. This competition invites aspiring architects and young professionals (age 25 and below) to showcase their creativity, innovation, and cultural sensitivity in architectural design.
Design Brief:
Your task is to conceive a modern mini-resort that seamlessly integrates elements of African art and architecture while harnessing advanced versions of locally sourced materials indigenous to your chosen geopolitical zone. Embrace the rich cultural tapestry of Nigeria and infuse your design with the essence of the region, paying homage to its history, traditions, and values. Your design should provide a harmonious blend of contemporary aesthetics and cultural authenticity, offering visitors a truly immersive experience.
Resort is to be designed on two hectares of land and location (in Nigeria) is to be determined by contestants geo political zones chosen in registration.
Design must be well incorporated with surrounding environment and create oneness, comfort and culture.
Key Objectives:
- Cultural Representation: Immerse yourself in the cultural identity of your selected geopolitical zone and translate its essence into architectural elements, spatial arrangements, and material choices.
- Sensory Experience: Create a multi-sensory journey for visitors by engaging all five senses in the design process. Consider how sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste can enhance the overall experience and evoke a deep connection to the culture.
- Tourist Attraction: Design a mini-resort that captivates and entices visitors, serving as a compelling tourist destination that highlights Nigeria’s diverse heritage and promotes cultural exchange.
Competition Categories and Prizes:
- Winner: ₦1,000,000
- 1st Runner-Up: ₦700,000
- 2nd Runner-Up: ₦400,000
- Best African Approach: ₦200,000
- Earliest (Good) Submission: ₦200,000
Timeline:
- Registration: April 1st – June 30th
- Design Phase: July 1st – August 31st
- Vetting and Selection of Top 10: September 1st – September 30th
- Event Announcement and Selection of Participants: October 1st
